Ask To Connect doesn't work well with ProtonVPN

Hey there.

As of recently I’m using my VPN all the time, but Glasswire doesn’t know how to act…
Every time I start my ProtonVPN app, it asks for a new connection. This also happens when my wake my PC from sleep. It’s kind of really annoying that I have to accept the new connection before being able to do anything.

Is there a way to whitelist an application, or perhaps another solution?

Cheers in advance!

Hi SlowBaboon
You could try and send an email to support. Check this page for info

You can white list apps under GlassWire Protect tab.
I do know when apps change the version with an update GlassWire will ask again to allow. I don’t this is the case though as you say it is every time you start you VPN
You could set firewall mode to Click to Block, but i guess you might prefer Ask to connect mode.
Note, if you are using the free version of GlassWire you can only block 2 Apps
Hope this helps

Hello,

As per my knowledge, You can try enabling “Ask to connect” mode in GlassWire and then allow ProtonVPN once, which should whitelist it. If that doesn’t work, you might want to temporarily disable GlassWire’s firewall when using ProtonVPN or add the VPN’s IP range to the firewall’s exceptions.

I hope this will help you.

Thanks!

same here.

the Proton VPN app creates a new app instance for every connection and by default it’s been blocked. glasswire doesn’t even offer that popup to allow or not. I thought it was a Proton issue, but evaluating Glasswire behavior inside app I found that ProtonVPN instances being created, trying to connect, but blocked.

a nightmare… i try to monitor proton while trying to connect to leave everything always green. but it’s not a permanent solution.

The path is probably different and incorporates a unique identifier for the current session/connection. You can check the path by clicking on the entry. If this is the case, GlassWire does not have the ability to recognise the app.
