Does the free version have ANY sort of firewall?

This is not immediately apparent to me. Some pages seem to indicate that advanced firewall features are for Premium, but the pricing page comparison list seems to suggest that ALL firewall functionality is Premium. Which is it?

I have a relative who will very shortly be upgrading to a new Windows 11 machine, but I don’t know how long it will take to arrive. With Windows 10 support ending in just days, what I want to know is, will adding the free edition of Glasswire provide him with a basic additional layer of security atop the Windows Firewall, merely as a stopgap measure until the new machine arrives?

Thank you!

Hello,

I don’t have GlassWire installed but, as far as I know, the firewall feature is only for Premium users. Free version doesn’t have that feature, as explained in pricing comparison webpage that you also mentioned.

GlassWire Free features, as listed in Features webpage are the following:

Thank you! I guess my initial confusion stemmed from the fact that the Features page specifically listed Bidirectional Firewall Controls as a premium feature. The choice of wording made me wonder if the free version had a less capable unidirectional mode. The answer is probably no, based on the Pricing page.

And I suppose it is also true that the Windows 10 firewall’s protection is not going to be massively compromised in the short time period (a few weeks at most) that delivery of the new machine may take, just because Microsoft’s deadline has passed.

You’re welcome. In my opinion GlassWire Free is primarily a network monitoring software.

About Windows 10 end of support maybe Windows 10 Consumer Extended Security Updates (ESU) could be of interest for you.

“The Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for Windows 10 provides customers with a more secure option to continue using their Windows 10 PCs after October 14, 2025, while they transition to Windows 11.”

I can’t post links here but you can find about it by using a search engine.

Beyond the network monitoring, GlassWire only provides an extra layer of management to the built-in Windows Firewall. It doesn’t add any additional security, but it does allow you to manage the Windows Firewall settings easier which may ultimately result in a more secure configuration.
