Feedback After One Year of Using GlassWire – Suggestions for Meaningful Improvements

Hello GlassWire team,

after using your product for about a year, I’d like to share some feedback. Overall, GlassWire is a great tool, but development feels as if it has slowed down — and there are several small enhancements that could significantly improve usability and security.

1. Automatic cleanup of outdated rules
Rules that refer to inactive or uninstalled applications currently have to be removed manually. This leads to unnecessary clutter and makes the rule list harder to navigate. It would be extremely helpful if GlassWire automatically detected and removed obsolete entries.

2. Default rule to block all inbound connections on public networks
When Windows classifies a network as public, I don’t want my laptop to accept any inbound requests — including ICMP/ping. At the moment, I have to create such a rule manually in the Windows Firewall, even though GlassWire provides a central interface that could easily offer this as a built-in security feature. A simple “Block all inbound traffic on public networks” toggle would make a big difference.

3. VirusTotal and suspicious-host alerts without user interaction
If an application is flagged via VirusTotal or listed under suspicious hosts, GlassWire only displays a notification. However, it doesn’t pause and wait for a user decision. Instead of just “Show desktop icon”, there should be an option like “Wait for user action” that prevents further activity until the user explicitly allows or blocks the process.

Individually, these are small adjustments — but together, they would noticeably enhance the purpose and value of GlassWire.

Automatically deleting rules for uninstalled applications makes sense. But doing this for inactive could be annoying, inactive doesn’t mean unwanted.

Hi @bytelander, thanks so much for taking the time to share such detailed and thoughtful feedback. We really appreciate you sticking with GlassWire for a year and taking the time to write this up.

1. Automatic cleanup of outdated rules
Today, you can already clear the entire Uninstalled Apps list with one click. If you hover over the group name, an “X” should appear that lets you remove all of them at once.

Automatically clearing inactive apps is a bit trickier. If an app is removed automatically and later reconnects to the network, GlassWire would prompt you to Allow or Block it again, which may not be the behavior most users want. That said, we do agree the list can get unwieldy over time.

One improvement we’re actively considering is bulk management of firewall rules, which would allow you to select multiple apps and manage or remove them in one action. We’re also open to the idea of clearing uninstalled apps after a longer period of inactivity, such as one month without being reinstalled, and we’ll keep that in mind as we iterate here.

2. Default rule to block inbound connections on public networks
This is a solid suggestion and does make sense. I’ll share this with the product team so it can be considered as part of our firewall improvements.

3. VirusTotal and suspicious host alerts without user interaction
To better understand what you’re looking for here, can you clarify how you’re currently using GlassWire? Are you using Ask to Connect mode, and are you looking for behavior where traffic to a flagged app or host is automatically blocked until you explicitly Allow or Block it?

Thanks again for the thoughtful feedback and suggestions!
