Hi everyone,
We’ve rolled out a new GlassWire update with stronger security defaults, a cleaner firewall experience, and a batch of fixes from your reports. Thanks to everyone who shared feedback!
What’s New
-
Ask to Connect for System Apps: Windows system apps now show an Ask to Connect prompt the first time they try to connect, instead of being allowed by default. This gives you more visibility and control over what’s actually reaching the network on your machine.
-
Independent Firewall Profiles: Profiles now work independently of each other. When you switch to a more restrictive profile, apps are blocked until you allow them again, so nothing slips through unnoticed when you change profiles.
-
Cleaner Firewall Rules: Firewall rules can now only be created for apps that actually use the network. No more orphan rules created from app details popups for apps that never connect. Everything you create stays visible and manageable.
-
Delete Rules from App Details: You can now delete firewall rules directly from an app’s details popup, without having to jump back to the Firewall tab.
-
VirusTotal for System Apps: Run VirusTotal scans on system apps right from the app details popup, matching the behavior already available on the Firewall tab.
Improvements & Fixes
-
Network Scanner: Fixed an issue where network scanning didn’t return results.
-
Smoother Installs: Fixed installer errors and the occasional “Untrusted publisher” warning for the kernel driver when updating from an older version.
-
VirusTotal Display: VirusTotal scan results no longer disappear from the GlassWire Protect tab and app popups after restarting the service.
-
Alerts: Fixed an issue where the Alerts list with the “All time” filter selected could show less than a week of history.
-
Firewall Performance: Removing multiple apps at once on the Firewall tab is now noticeably faster.
-
Window Behavior: Fixed an issue where GlassWire opened in a small window instead of full screen the first time you launched it from the tray icon after a restart. Also fixed an issue where the main window couldn’t be moved while GlassWire was disconnected.
-
Other Fixes: Resolved a missing app details issue in the Ask to Connect popup, and a few smaller polish items on the Hardware Resources tab.
-
Kernel Driver Stability: Updated the bundled Windows Kernel Driver with stability improvements, including fixes for rare crashes.
