GlassWire 3.8 Hotfix Released – Windows 10 Service Startup Issue Resolved

Hi everyone,

We’ve just released a hotfix for GlassWire 3.8 addressing the service startup issue affecting some Windows 10 systems.

The issue has been resolved and the updated installer is now available.

Download the latest version here:
GlassWire Version 3.8.1033

If you previously installed 3.8.1030 and experienced the service stopping or local server connection error, please install this updated build.

There is no need to select “Use Legacy Driver” with this version.

Thank you to everyone who reported the issue quickly and provided detailed steps as that helped us isolate and resolve it much faster.

We’ll continue monitoring feedback closely before expanding the rollout via auto-update.

I use Windows 11 Pro and I had no issues with v3.8.1030 and v3.8.1033 is working very well.

Working well on Win 10 Pro x64 22H2 without the need for the Legacy Driver!

Carried out a clean install used legacy drivers but still wont connect. I run Win10 Pro 64bit. Where do I go from here Thanks

@Crownofgray You do not need to select “Use legacy driver” when installing the latest hotfix. Can you run the installer again, but unselect the “Use legacy driver” option and let me know if you run into the same issue?

Hi Huda, Still no joy. I’m a 82 yo who can navigate around providing there is a step by step process with what I should be seeing after each step. Thanks

@Crownofgray Can you confirm what you are experiencing? Are you seeing a “Can’t connect to local server” error when you launch GlassWire, or are you seeing something different?

Yes that is what I am seeing. I have let it run for a while up to 5 attempts

For now, can you try these steps:

  1. Close the GlassWire app if it is currently running on your device
  2. Run the GlassWire Version 3.8.1033 installer
  3. When you get to the step that includes the “Use Legacy Driver” option, make sure it is unselected before you click Next.
  4. Finish installing and open GlassWire

Are you still seeing the same issue? I’ll talk to my team to see what else we could try if you are still experiencing the same thing.

Maybe this should be removed from the installer options. If you don’t need to select it anymore its pointless then?

@Crownofgray If the issue continues after installing the hotfix, please follow the steps below to create a log file and send it to our team.

1. Open the GlassWire folder

  1. Press the Windows key + R on your keyboard.
  2. In the box that appears, type: C:\ProgramData\GlassWire\service-full
  3. Press Enter.

2. Turn on logging

  1. In the folder that opens, find the file named glasswire.
  2. Right-click the file.
  3. Click Open with → Notepad.
  4. If Windows asks, choose Run as administrator.
  5. In the file, find this line: LogEnabled = false
  6. Change it to: LogEnabled = true
  7. Click File → Save, then close Notepad.

3. Restart the GlassWire service

  1. Press Windows key + R again.
  2. Type: services.msc
  3. Press Enter.
  4. Find GlassWire Control Service in the list.
  5. Right-click it and choose Restart (or Start if it is stopped).

4. Reproduce the issue

Use GlassWire normally until the problem happens again.

5. Send us the log files

  1. Open this folder: C:\ProgramData\GlassWire\service-full\log
  2. Select all the files in the log folder.
  3. Send those files to us at help@glasswire.com or send it to me as a private message in this forum.

These logs will help our developers understand what is happening.

Thank you!

Still no connect. I have never clicked on Legacy Driver. Will try to generate and send logfile.

Glasswire does not generate any file that contains LogEnabled.

I am almost ready to call Chase Bank and do a ChargeBack - due to technological difficulties.

EDIT::: Somehow I managed to bludgeon it into working?? Multiple attempts to roll back failed. Tried to do a full uninstall, froze up at the last step of deleting the Glasswire program folder. Had to keep “end task”, reboot, try again. Tried a couple clean installs, couldn’t get that to work.

Finally explicitly right clicked to run as administrator for the 3.8.1033 installer (hoping I could get it fully installed, in order to fully uninstall), and – it works now?!? I’m really confused. I lost all of my databases, which I expected with all of the clean uninstalls, etc, but very weird. It also abruptly understands I have an Elite key, which it hasn’t shown in months.

Not sure if I just managed to clean up the right thing finally, or if specifically running the installer as Administrator, or what, fixed it, but it does seem to be working for now…

ORIGINAL POST:

Registered just to chime in that it’s still a mess…

Just tried to update to 3.8.1033 after all of the issues of late. Glasswire hasn’t worked for me in months and have been too busy/distracted to try to troubleshoot. Just chiming in this one doesn’t work either, although strangely it TRIED to start for about 2 minutes after the first install (it was showing updated files, new connections, etc), and then crashed, and hasn’t worked since.

I have tried installations with and without legacy driver. No change, just shows that it can’t connect to local server anymore.

I had an “Elite” key from the good ol’ days but it seems to have forgotten my registration as well, but I doubt that has anything to do with it.

I am using an Asus X16 laptop, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, latest Intel wifi drivers.
