Glasswire hogging CPU, multiple GWIdlMon.exe, GWCrashpadHandler.exe and conhost.exe

Dear team,

I’m currently using GlassWire Free and the computer becomes unusable gradually after reboot.

I noticed that multiple instances of “GlassWire Computer Idle Monitor (32 bit)”, “GWCrashpadHandler.exe” and “Console Window Host” are launched until the computer is hogged and unresponsive with 100% CPU usage. (are all these processes expected?)

Maybe it’s worth mentioning that I’m also using Bitdefender AV.

I have tried clean installing GW, with no change to this behavior.
It might be just a coincidence but I recently added a new local windows account with fewer permissions, and I guess this issue started at the same time.

I checked and the parent process of “conhost.exe” is “GWIdlMon.exe”, parent process of “GWIdlMon.exe” is “GWCtlSrv.exe” and most parent processes for “GWCrashpadHandler.exe” are “GWIdlMon.exe”.

Can someone provide some help or a way to debug this behavior?

Thanks!

Hi r.serodio

All I can suggest is running a few tests to see if the behavior continues.

Maybe you could try uninstalling Bitdefender and see if
GW is still hogging CPU as you say…

Not sure if the new local windows account would be the problem.

With GW and Bitdefender running at the same time might be the issue?

I know Bitdefender will disable windows security on install,
but both these software packages will be looking
at each other, if that makes sense.

I have been using this setup (GW+Bitdefender AV) for some time without any issues, problems started when I had a new profile in my windows machine.

I did a lot of tests, standalone GW, clean installs, but I wasn’t able to understand why and had no clear answer regarding whether it is expected to have this amount of processes running or even how to debug this,

I simply solved the issue by uninstalling Glasswire, computer is stable again and not consume all the CPU for whatever reason.

Thanks
