The Situation:
When selecting ‘Block All’ in the firewall option, a persistent desktop notification appears.
It is always on top of any and all applications.
The problem:
It is always on top. No option to hide it, no option to disable it.
I cannot do my work, I cannot watch a movie, and I can’t play a game without it obscuring said content, thus rendering the option to block all rather useless because if I want to block traffic and enjoy my content without obstructive popups, I need to just leave it on ‘click to block’ then physically crawl under my desk and pull out the Ethernet cable.
The Solution:
Have it set to popup by default, but
-
Add a few options in the settings menu, and on the popup itself to snooze the notification for 1hr/24hrs/72hrs/1week/permanently.
-
Add option to turn off ‘Always on top’ visible on the popup.
-
If there is a troubleshooting page within the app, you should also include a “check if firewall is set to block” link, at the top of the list.
The reason;
The devs want to help people identify the reason for their networking issue, but the current implementation is just overbearing, and fundamentally lazy thinking and programming.
