Glasswire 2.2.291 cannot install

I am trying to install Glasswire 2.2.291, I give it the folder that does not exist, F:\GlassWire

Last installation log line says:
Output folder: F:\GlassWire

and … it disappears, crashed

created empty folder and nothing else, no other files,
event viewer says:

Faulting application name: GlassWireSetup.exe, version: 2.2.291.0, time stamp: 0x57b2920b
Faulting module name: nsihelper.DLL, version: 2.2.291.0, time stamp: 0x600ab22b

Fault offset: 0x0027528f
Faulting process ID: 0x5f40
Faulting application start time: 0x01d6fe95c9ced5aa

Previous installation (2.2.268) works just fine

Sorry for the problem. Have you seen this issue with any other installers lately?

What OS are you using? Do you have multiple drives? Do you see a .dmp file on your desktop?

Win10 20H2,
yes, multiple drives,
no .dmp file on the desktop

I have asked our team for advice. It’s not a normal issue we see. Thanks for your report.

@SHADOW13

  • Please try to install GlassWire to the default location. Does that work?
  • Did you install the previous version to the same location (F:\GlassWire)?
  • What kind of drive is F? Is it a typical disk drive? Is it a network drive?

Previous version was installed into same location. First attempt to install new version on the same location (over previous version) failed the same way and I ended up with empty folder (since it first uninstalls previous version).
It’s SSD, inside my PC case.

Just want to highlight again that the previous installation works just fine, it’s only the new version installer fails

It’s quite complicated to do so, but could you send us a .dmp file for this issue? It will help us find and fix it for you and others.

  • Run regedit.exe
  • Create a new key at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps
  • The new key name should be GlassWireSetup.exe
  • Add a new string value at the DumpFolder and set C:\Users\
  • Add a new DWORD value at DumpType and set 2
  • Quit regedit

It should look something like this.

Then you should reproduce the problem and the crash dump will appear in C:\Users

Then please add a link to this thread in the email and send me the .dmp.

You may need to use a cloud service like Dropbox or Google Drive.

HI @Ken_GlassWire

Been a while, don’t have crash dump but I think I found the issue.
The problem is custom glasswire.conf

Here are the differences:

  • modified ownership of the file to myself (only user in the system and also admin account)
  • modified permission for my user (given all permission)
  • updated the file by modifying those lines:
LogDirectory = F:\Glasswire/service-full/log
DbStorageDirectory = F:\Glasswire/service-full

the installer seems to crash unless I remove the file - then it installs fine

1.5 year later and the issue is STILL NOT FIXED!?

Seriously.

Year ago I provided exact cause of the installation failure and it’s still there, still causing crashes with the installer

And now 2023 and same issue. Still not fixed. But remove the file and it installs.,

Could you please tell me how I can remove said file?
I went into the program data folder and deleted glasswire.conf, then tried to install/update using the latest build but it crashes at exactly the same place as you guys.

Also extracted the .exe with 7-zip, but the .conf file is nowhere to be found.
