I got it wrong because I didnāt realize that Steve Jobs did a smart job in this area.
I had a look to see how much work would be required to go with either macOS or iOS/iPadOS. Itās nowhere what I thought because all these Apple OS use the same XNU kernel, based on Jobsā NeXTSTEP kernel.
So any of those paths will likely end up at the same place. Iād expect there to be two main options:
go with the one that has the more fully featured API for firewall management and network monitoring, which is probably macOS.
go with the maximum common functionality for at least two platforms. In order of macOS, iPadOS, then iOS.
This thread is a clown show. I use Glassware on three machines. Using Little Snitch on a MacBook Pro. Was keen on Glassware for macOS. Reading closely, it is obvious there is no work being carried out on a macOS release, if there ever was.
October 10, 2024 Wow there has been five years of chat in this form. @glasswire(site/dev) can you update me on a MacBook release date? Has there been any new work on making this release happen? What software if not your would you recommend for me to use while I wait?
Now this is clearly an interesting forum chat, and Iām also keenly waiting for a macOS release. Personally, itās around 2 years of waiting too and itās a bit awkward to land on a page like this.
Any update on a macOS release or maybe releasing an iOS app that supports MacBooks and iPhones, idk?
after quickly going through this page, i dont think that a mac version will come soon but thats ok. where is the point in putting money and manpower into a software that gets bypassed by the OS anyways? apple is just a P.I.T.A!
my question would be, if at some point in time you release a macos version, would i also be able to use my licence key for mac too? im working 6 months on win and 6 months on my macbook.
it would be awesome if the licence key wouldnt be limited to OS or devices but to active usage. so that you can only use it on 1 running machine.
4, nearly 5 years later and iOS still hasnāt replaced macos. Everyone in this thread came here looking for a macOS version of glasswire, while an ios version would be great someday, weāve been consistently telling you that macos is what weāre asking for. Could anyone from glasswire speak to this? I wonder how many people have not gotten an answer and just decided something like radio silence is good enough and gave up asking.
I doubt it will ever happen. Apple have made it really difficult to do anything at the network driver level. The old kernel extensions are deprecated and quite difficult to make work now. Going forward you can only leverage the framework hooks that Apple provide. So features will be limited by that.
