V3.7.880 blocking tons by itself

I admit that I would never have thought of installing two firewalls on the same PC for fear of conflicts.

Which 3rd party firewall did you install?

Hello,

I replied to you with a PM

This is getting absurd. Another one of my posts is now awaiting approval… The one before this is currently at 27 days as of this post…

Was this ever fixed or is glasswire now abandonware?

Moreover the webpage copyright year at the footer of https://www.glasswire.com/ isn’t updated yet, as normally would occur in websites. It’s not a good sign either, in my opinion.

Anything referencing a competing product gets flagged.

It seems we get a new mod / CS rep for a few days who will promise to look into the longstanding issues. Then after a week or two they disappear. Many weeks later the cycle repeats. The list of current mods confirms the lack of activity. The last website blog article was in January 2025.

Even then, I tried removing the reference to said other firewall (said in bold in my previous post) and the only other one I mentioned is the one that Glasswire hooks/integrates into that is a part of the OS. And it was still getting flagged. Their filters need to be reviewed if simple things are causing this.

Hi ittroll

Servo_Glasswire was from the good days back when Ken was also around and would reply that day from in the forums. I think as they had build it up then sold it. I also remember when Kate as around for awhile and would respond pretty quick. These days have gone. Personally i am using a different firewall software and only use GW for its other functions.

I think once it is flagged there is no going back. When it has happened to me I just delete the post and create a new one without the “offending” content. It is annoying that such longstanding members are subject to an opaque, unpublished censorship policy.

Both Glasswire and the Malwarebytes Windows Firewall Control hook into the Microsoft Defender firewall. It’s just a shame that this project seems to be abandoned at this point in time. I’m sorry to say but nothing since at least October when I made my post. And this thread mentions problems back at the end of August. For anyone keeping track, as of this post that’s over FOUR MONTHS with no signs of updates, hotfixes. Nothing. Not one thing.

At this point their business model and lack of support have since come into question. Are they still accepting payments for this crashing software? All of these paying clients/customers… and nothing? A couple posts that they’re looking into it, but that was months ago. I won’t go into further details about what else can happen. I’ll just say it won’t be pretty and I won’t be the least bit surprised if something appears at some point about a class action lawsuit. Won’t be originating from me, for what it’s worth.

I’m surprised none of the tech news posting sites have posted anything about this yet. Maybe if that happens it’ll light a fire under the Glasswire team to get a proper fix released.

I rolled back to 3.5.821 and found when I came back to my desk that this version had in fact crashed as well. Monitoring my other PCs that are running Glasswire, I’ve not seen a crash yet. I’d like to look into it further when I’m able to. What’s causing this? What’s the root offender? They mentioned an issue with the QT framework, but there has to be something more triggering it. I’ll have to see if there are proper crash dumps generated and look into those. On the plus side, at least no one has gotten a blue screen from the crashes… …yet. :joy:

I have reverted to the older copy as well.

I still have a little over 40 days left on my plan, I don’y plan on renewing as line you I have canceled my subscription.

I’ll be moving to tinywall (firewall) and OOLanytrx (network and IP scanner) as they do about the same and they are free.

At this point it is absolutely ridiculous.

I trust Malwarebytes - and I say that without bias, even though I’m an Expert on their team and used to talk to Marcin over MSN Messenger. They listen to customers and care, with prompt responses to address issues.

That said, I’m considering the Malwarebytes Windows Firewall Control which is actively developed still to this day. Last update as of this post was December 5, 2025.

I to this day still miss the Agnitum Firewall Pro, it was the best firewall I’ve ever used.

I can’t believe there’s still no official response from Glasswire regarding this issue. I will too be cancelling my subscription after many years. Safing portmaster looks like a good alternative. Does anyone know anyone who uses it?

Hi everyone.

First, I am genuinely sorry for how long it has been since you have gotten a real update from us. I have read through the entire thread and I fully understand why people are upset. When a firewall is silently blocking things, it breaks trust. On top of that, the lack of communication has made it feel like you are being ignored. You are not.

Where things stand (what I can share right now)

Over the last several months we have been working on a set of changes focused specifically on the problems raised in this thread.

  • We fixed a bug that could cause some apps to become blocked unexpectedly. This was not intended behavior and we agree it is unacceptable.

  • We are still working on simplifying the firewall experience to only show apps that have a network connection, because the current behavior and UI can be confusing, especially when the list gets flooded and it is no longer clear what you blocked versus what is blocked by default.

  • We have added a new hardware resource usage monitoring feature. This is separate from the firewall issue, but it has been part of the work happening in parallel.

Timing (setting expectations)

We do not have a release available today, and I know that is frustrating to hear. If things go as planned, we are aiming for another update in roughly the next month. I do not want to overpromise a specific day and miss it, but I do want to be transparent that this is actively in progress.

Realistically, we are a very small team, and we ran into some roadblocks that forced us to temporarily prioritize a few must-fix items before we can safely finish and ship the firewall changes. The holidays also slowed things down. None of this is an excuse, just context for why this has taken longer than it should have.

The part we still need your help with

One of the hardest part has been that we have not been able to reliably reproduce the main issue on our own systems. This makes it harder to confirm that a fix fully addresses what you are seeing.

Because of that, here is what I would like to do to make sure we do not ship something that does not actually fix it for you.

  • As soon as we have a build ready, we will make it available to anyone who wants to try it early.

  • I would really appreciate help confirming whether the changes address what you are seeing, and if not, we will use your feedback to iterate quickly.

If you are impacted today

I know some of you have already done this, but I want to acknowledge it plainly. If version 3.7.880 is making your system unusable, staying on an older version temporarily is a reasonable workaround until we ship the fix. Please make sure auto-updates are disabled if you choose that route.

About posts awaiting approval

I have seen the comments about posts getting stuck in the approval queue or being flagged unexpectedly. That is not the experience we want, especially for long-time community members. These posts are flagged to be reviewed by a real person, and I will keep an eye on this thread to make sure legitimate troubleshooting and feedback is approved as quickly as possible.

I know this thread has been going since August, and you deserve more consistent updates than “we are looking into it.” I am sorry for the silence, and I appreciate everyone who kept posting details, even while understandably frustrated. I will post again as soon as we have a test build available and will coordinate with anyone here who wants to validate it with us.

Thank you,
Huda

@Huda_GlassWire The update is appreciated. The wait for another month is not. I’m not sugar coating, I’m speaking directly and bluntly. As someone who has developed software myself and beta tested software with major companies (Microsoft, Logitech, and several others I’m afraid to name because I don’t need more posts getting flagged for review…), this is what honestly needs to happen:

A release that fixes the issue of 3.7.880 needs to be pushed out ASAP. A minor build that fixes the current issue, separate from the new build you mentioned coming next month. This is called a Hotfix Release. It is aimed at stopping the crashes that people are still getting.

Right now, people don’t give a damn about new features. They want the stability back to the firewall. It’s concerning coming back to your PC and seeing the firewall has crashed and closed, no longer sitting in your tray at all. I cannot stress enough how important this hotfix is and why it needs to be released as quickly as possible. When you do a Hotfix Release, that will help with shipping the other changes. Those can be released “When it’s ready™”. But do not wait for the Hotfix Release that stops the daily crashes. That needs to get out to people as soon as possible. Not another month.

I’ve rolled back by two versions now and am still seeing this crash issue occurring on 3.5.821. I believe I see what the issue is and how it is triggered to an extent.

I also want to touch on one other thing. Simplifying the firewall experience to only show apps that have a network connection: As long as this is an option you can toggle, then that should be fine.

When the test build is available, I’d like to see if it fixes the issue for sure. Sign me up.

Please contact me about the post approval situation. I’d like to know what I’m doing that is causing this trigger to keep flagging my posts for review. That way, we can work together to improve the overall user experience for all visitors. Saying this as a webmaster myself, running my own site/blog, forum, and wiki.

Thanks for the update, it is good to hear work is still happening. But why start on new features if the team is very small and there are longstanding issues with core functionality? A prime example being the silent blocking of apps updated before GlassWire launches and the lack of firewall rules to manage these updates. The worst of these is probably Edge WebView2 which is a control component used by many other apps and frequently updated.

Windows has really great built-in hardware usage and performance monitoring. There might be some convenience to having this data available in GlassWire but I doubt this is a priority for your customers. How about a survey listing a number of potential development areas that your customers can vote on?

@Huda_GlassWire For the new “test” build I would just make a post with a downloadlink in the forum. Put a big warning about alpha/beta “use at own” risk and a reminder to have a backup ready in it. Easier than be spammed with all the “I want to test” mails. If you didn’t read the big warnings and run into problems it’s then the users fault for not having a working backup (duck).
And maybe list also older (last one or two) GW version on the download page so people can get them if they run into GW problems that needs fixing that takes longer.

Since you mention recource usage, for me when I look at the windows startup app (windows taskmanager) and the startup-impact GW is listed with High and is always loading last of all my app that run at startup (which aren’t really much). That could explain some autoblocks since the pc is already running while GW is still starting to load (as the last app that shows up in my taskbar).

I second a vote on this…

New features sometimes can mean bloatware and using more system resources.

Example, “Mini tool partition” in the new version has added Duplicate Cleaner, i consider this bloatware. I emailed them and suggested they just concentrate on improving the software and not adding bloat, that has nothing to do with partitioning.

If they add this to GW “Resource usage”

Most of us already have tools that do this.

Agreed. Task Manager and other Windows tools handle this just fine. I won’t use it in Glasswire, it’s useless and redundant.

@Huda_GlassWire I’d also rather have a working GW first before adding more stuff.
If you got only a small team I’d rather have a working firewall than one that’s autoblocking stuff or crashes but has hundreds of not needed features.

I like the idea with a community survey for features to add. I would e.g. like to have a column where I could see the date for the VirusTotal result. I know gw is no av but since it shows the results I would like to see instantly if they are months old
